Allan M. Gathercoal - President


Allan Gathercoal  DD, MTh, MA is the President/Founder of Flying Doctors of America, which he founded in 1990.  He has been the team leader on more than 200 medical/dental missions.  He has traveled the globe over the past 28 years but he "puts his feet up" in his new home town: Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.   He loves flying as private pilot and an aficionado of classic cars. He and his wife, Liz Marcela, recently started a company, UcanTucan Amazon Chocolate, to help stop the denigration of the Amazon by supporting the indigenous peoples buy purchasing their organic cacao

Michael Altman, Chairman


Michael Altman has been a volunteer since 1990 and has served on the Board of Directors of Flying Doctors of America since 1991 when he was first elected. He has been on several medical missions and currently serves as a team leader. A CPA for 26 years, Michael currently runs a Financial Advisory Practice with Ameriprise Financial. He was elected as Vice Chairman of the Cobb County Republican Party in 2005-2007 and Treasurer in 2004-2005. He was appointed by the Governor to serve as Chairman of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust.

Liz Marcela Gathercoal, EXD.


Liz Marcela is the South American coordinator for Flying Doctors of America.   She is also holds her teacher's certificate with a focus in special education.  Her love is travel while bringing care to the world's less fortunate.

Kayreen Altman, NP

Kayreen Altman

Kayreen is a registered nurse with primary experience in adult health and has been an intensive care nurse for 19 years. During this time she has also worked for a cardiothoracic surgical group for 6 years and managed an ICU for 2 years. Her primary area of expertise is ICU bedside nursing with cardiothoracic surgery patients.

John Arledge, MD


Dr. John Arledge is a board-certified Gastroenterologist who has lived and practiced in Carrollton, Ga, since 2008. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology, and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He also was a Flight Surgeon with the Air National Guard from 2000-2012, rank of Major. He is a veteran of foreign war after spending time in Bagram Afghanistan as a Flight Surgeon.

Ashish Patel, DDS


Dr. Ashish Patel, a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry, has practiced in the Atlanta Area since 1996. More than a specialist cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry he teaches. Traveling throughout the USA teaching dentist new cosmetic and restorative skills. In the past years he has donated his skills and service in the mountain of the Himalayas, the Solomon Islands, the Marshall Islands and where his parents were born - Kenya.

Allison Koenig, MD


Dr. Allison Koenig is a board-certified pediatrician in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia.  She attended college at Harvard University, and then completed her medical school and residency at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.  She has participated in medical missions to Haiti, Cambodia, Madagascar, and throughout South America.  In addition, she serves as a Board member for Kate’s Club, and as an Advisory Board member for GiGi’s Playhouse of Atlanta and Girls on the Run of Atlanta. ​

Dr. Douglas Schildhaus, DMD.


Dr. Douglas Schildhaus is a Pediatric Dentist, residing in New York City.   After graduating from Muhlenberg College he graduated Dental School at Boston University School of Dental Medicine.   Dr. Schildhaus has practiced for 23 years as a Pediatric Dentist in Woodbury, N.Y.   He also works extensively with special needs children.  As a Flying Doctors of America team leader he has been on multiple missions to both the Andes and the Amazon of Peru.

Fred Radewagen, FSMS


Fred Radewagen is an international government and public affairs consultant whose practice is centered on the Pacific Islands in Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. A graduate of Northwestern University with a concentration in diplomatic history, Fred earned a Masters of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and has been involved in public policy and national politics for over 40 years.

JoAnn Chambers, DA


JoAnn Chambers is a graduate of Fullerton College and 44 years as RDA JoAnn has flown on more than 15 medical/dental missions.  "My goal for each mission is to help every dentist on the team work excel.  Regardless of the surrounds we always provide the best care possible to those in need."

Jessica Willett, MD


Dr. Jessica Willett is an Emergency Medicine physician based out of Northern California. She is also involved in global health and humanitarian work, acting as a member of various international aid organizations. She believes in promoting well-being as a primary component of medicine and seeks to spread awareness and education on mental health among those who provide medical care.
